We are seeking a passionate Montessori Elementary Teaching Assistant to support a class of 6–12-year-olds in our small Montessori school in leafy Murrayfield, Edinburgh from August 2025.

This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate to build upon the success of our recent inspection.


Job Description

As a Montessori Elementary Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the Lead Teacher to support the implementation of the Montessori philosophy and curriculum in the classroom. You will assist in creating a nurturing and stimulating environment where students can develop academically, socially, and emotionally.

Montessori training is preferred and experience of working in a similar role is desirable. Strong communication skills and a professional approach are required.


Responsibilities

  • Support the Lead Teacher in delivering Montessori lessons and activities to children aged 6–12

  • Assist pupils individually or in small groups, providing guidance and support as they engage with Montessori materials and learning experiences

  • Assist with classroom management, intervening as needed to prevent disruption to Montessori lessons

  • Assist with the preparation of learning materials

  • Foster a respectful and inclusive classroom culture, promoting independence, collaboration, and self-directed learning

  • Help maintain a clean, organised, and inviting classroom environment, including setting up and packing away the classroom each day

  • Observe and document children’s progress and behaviour, communicating regularly with the Lead Teacher and parents/guardians as needed

  • Collaborate with colleagues to plan and implement afternoon activities, outings, and school events

  • Support the development of students’ social and emotional skills, including conflict resolution, empathy, and self-regulation

  • Supervise play and lunchtimes alongside the Lead Teacher

Working Hours

  • Full time, term time only

  • Monday to Thursday: 8.00am – 3.30pm

  • Friday: 8.00am – 1.00pm

Starting salary dependent on experience.
